Cultural resources are evidence of past human activities. In other words, it’s archaeology!
An archaeologist will help you identify your project area and the required buffer, coordinate with the County and local Tribes, complete a confidential records search, survey the project area, and provide the level of investigation and reporting that will satisfy County requirements. If there are cultural resources in your project area, we will help you identify options and solutions and work with the County and Native American Tribes to clarify for you.
One of the most common misconception about archaeology is that it is a project killer. Consider that misconception debunked! If cultural resources are identified on your property, we can work to find ways to avoid resources, mitigate proposed damages, or clear an alternate location on your property.
Per the requirements, you must have a Secretary of the Interior Qualified Archaeologist complete a cultural resources survey for a permit to be granted – there is really no way of getting around this. Completing this survey takes TIME – Schedule early!
• DO call us with any questions pertaining to your permit application and cultural resources!
• DO check early with the Planning and Building Department about their expectations
• DO be proactive and reserve your spot with us now to get your survey completed within the next year! This will take time (6-8 weeks at least) and we don’t want the cultural resources inventory to be what’s slowing down your permitting application, if it can be avoided.
• DO NOT forget that we are here to help! Our job is to help you achieve compliance while also trying to protect any archaeology sites, historically architectural structures, or tribal cultural resources to the best of our ability.
• DO NOT GRADE, DIG, PLOW, LEVEL, or GRUB ANY PORTION OF YOUR WORK AREA PRIOR to your cultural survey completion and receiving your clearance or recommendation
